A Study on the Classification of Renal Tuberculosis using ^(203)Hg Neohydrin Renal Scanning

Abstract
A clinical study on the renal scanning using 203Hg neohydrin was done on 39 tuberculous kidneys of 30 cases seen during the period from 1962 to 1967 at the Pusan National University Hospital. The results were as follows:
1. The author advocated a new classification of renal tuberculosis according to the 203Hg neohydrin uptake, shape, size and the degree of parenchymal destruction of the kidney. In the present classification renal tuberculosis was classified into 4 groups (I , II, III and IV group).
2. According to the present classification the author¢¥s cases were classified and evaluated.
3. The significance of the present classification in the management of treatment were as follows. 1) In I and II group chemotherapy was indicated.
2) In III and IV group nephrectomy was indicated.
3) Partial nephrectomy was indicated in the cases with cold area of I and III group who revealed "no improvement on the 203Hg neohydrin renal scanning by the chemotherapy.
4. The present classification was considered more valuable as compared with Lattimer¢¥s classification for the evaluation of management of renal tuberculosis.
